Active participation in the rearing of fish has been a great adventure for the Kenosha Sport Fishing and Conservation Association, and the club was actually founded to build the Kenosha Salmon Rearing Pond. We raise between 40,000 to 60,000 fingerlings (baby fish) for about 6 weeks at the pond, which are then released into the Pike River and Lake Michigan. The feeding and care of the fingerlings and maintenance of the pond are all made possible from membership dues and sponsoring member contributions.
Many club activities are closely related to the pond and, a very good working relationship exists between the KSFCA and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which supplies the fingerlings, provides technical services and also assists in the release of the fish. To date over 2.5 million salmon have been raised and released.
School groups, scout groups and family's are all welcome to help feed the baby fish, and learn about the programs to keep the local fisheries healthy and growing for the next generation.
Our financial needs now are all locally driven. Business sponsors, Public donations, Individual gifts, Grants and Volunteers.
